  • The Hobbit Filming in 3D at 48 Frames Per Second

    The Hobbit

As you may know, production has begun on The Hobbit and so far the internet has seen a few pictures of sets and a press conference with the cast. Peter Jackson has posted an update on his Facebook page with a bit of information about the film being shot at 48 frames per second.

Traditionally, films are shot at 24 frames per second and that’s been the way since the 1920′s but shooting a film at a higher frame rate will give the end product a much clearer and smoother image making it a much more enjoyable experience for all watching, This however bumps the cost up a bit as it requires more film.

    From Peter Jackson on Facebook:

Time for an update. Actually, we’ve been intending to kick off with a video, which is almost done, so look out for that in the next day or two. In the meantime, I thought I’d address the news that has been reported about us shooting THE HOBBIT at 48 frames per second, and explain to you what my thoughts are about this.

  • Darren Aronofsky Steps Down as Director of The Wolverine

In another movie about the Marvel X-Man, Wolverine, we get to see Hugh Jackman go to Japan to train with a samurai warrior. Since I liked the first one, I am probably going to enjoy the second one. However, there appears to be some trouble in paradise for the film.

According to reports, Darren Aronofsky has stepped down as director of the movie. However, there are conflicting reports as to why he has stepped down. There are two big stories to potentially consider. The first is what he says.

"As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of ‘The Wolverine’ would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won’t be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again."

  • New Priest Preview Made Available

While I was at the theater getting ready to watch Battle: Los Angeles, I was relaxing and enjoying some of the previews. I get an idea of what movies I want to see by checking out the previews; it’s how I knew that I wanted to see Battle: Los Angeles.

A great preview came up for an upcoming movie called Priest. The basic premise of the story is actually pretty cool. You’ve got a group of priest warriors who made a vow to fight against vampires. They beat the vampires and then sort of dissipated.

One of those priests, Paul Bettany, has a niece who is kidnapped by the vampires. And so, despite the fact he is breaking the rules of the Church, he goes out to rescue her before she is turned into one.

The movie looks awesome. I mean, let’s be serious here. A bunch of kick ass people kicking vampire ass (can I say kick and ass any more in a sentence? Yup!) is always going to be fun.

  • Man of Steel is a Total Reboot

One of the big problems that was realized when watching ‘Superman Returns’ is that it was a sequel to a sequel to a sequel to a…Basically, it was just another sequel in the long history of Superman movies. Lex Luthor was going to do something else evil and Superman was going to save the day.

Except, this time, it wasn’t the Clark Kent that we all loved and adored from the old Superman movies. Fortunately, we don’t need to worry about that with the next Superman.

Zack Snyder, the director of the upcoming ‘Man of Steel’ movie has stated that this movie will exist on its own without any regard for the previous ones. With Christopher Nolan onboard as a producer, I have an idea that this is a total reboot.

  • MGM Alters Red Dawn to Avoid Upsetting China

According to reports, MGM is changing the villain in their upcoming movie, Red Dawn. At first, the movie was going to have China be the invading country, but after realizing that a decent chunk of their revenue comes from China, they decided to change it. Who is the culprit now?

Good ol’ Kim Jong-il from North Korea.

Apparently, they were concerned that the remake, directed by Dan Bradley, would upset China. And, since China is a good way to make some extra money—Karate Kid worked with China—then you can imagine how important it is for MGM, a company aching for revenue, to not burn any bridges.

  • Michael Gough dies age 94

Best known for his role as Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman films directed by Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher, Michael Gough passed away aged 94.

His agent had this to say

Tim Burton was a huge fan of Mick from the Hammer Horror films of the 60s, so he tried very hard to include him in everything he did

Gough worked with Burton on a number of occasions including Batman, Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride and most recently Alice in Wonderland in which he voiced the dodo bird.
