• One of the most successful game franchises of recent times could very well be branching out and making its way onto the silver screen.

Variety are reporting that Sony Pictures are closing in on a deal with Ubisoft to develop the Assassin's Creed movie. This comes as no surprise after Ubisoft set up Ubisoft Motion Pictures back in May and it's expected that a number of other titles could find their way into cinemas.

As apposed to the traditional game to movie deal, Ubisoft are expected to retain some control over the development rather than allowing a studio to simply take their IP and run with it. This could result in a film that is a lot closer to the games and should make fans a lot happier than they otherwise might be.

In 2010 Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood was received well be gamers everywhere and sales topped 1 million units in it's first week. In total the series has now sold over 28 million units world wide and the next instalment is set for release in November of 2011.
